Trip to Elmina Castle

Elminia Castle was first occupied by the Portuguese in the 1400's. It was later occupied by the Dutch and Great Britian. It is estimated that two million Africans were stolen and housed here before being sent to places like America, Brazil, and the West Indies. You could feel the suffering still infused in the walls and smell the stench of millions of human beings forced to suffer unimaginable atrocities and brutal deaths. I tried to imagine what it would feel like to be going about your everyday activities to then be kidnapped, ripped away from everything you knew--your family, your land, ancestors and language to be shipped off to unknown lands. My mind could not conceive of such horrific acts.
